For this is what we do. Put one foot forward and then the other. Lift our eyes to the snarl and smile of the world once more. Think. Act. Feel. Add our little consequence to the tides of good and evil that flood and drain the world. Drag our shadowed crosses into the hope of another night. Push our brave hearts into the promise of a new day. With love: the passionate search for truth other than our own. With longing: the pure, ineffable yearning to be saved. For so long as fate keeps waiting, we live on. God help us. God forgive us. We live on.
As a firm believer in God, what I'm about to say might make me a hypocrite. But I want to make it clear that I am not Christian or Catholic. I do not associate myself with any one religion. I find merit (and possibly some faults) in all religions but I denounce none. I believe in a higher power that I call God. I say that everyone is entitled to their own beliefs just like everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
Growing up, I was taught that God has a plan for all of us. Everything that happens in our lives is "part of his plan." I don't exactly believe this anymore. At least, not in the same way that others would. I guess some people believe that they have a "predetermined destiny" but I find that idea completely stupid. What I'm saying is God (or in some cases fate) may have a plan but things rarely go according to plan. If something bad happens to you, get up and do something about it. You can't just sit around waiting for things to get better. Even if there is, on some scale, a grand plan for your life, it isn't going to happen if you don't do something with your life. How do you know that what you're doing is right for you unless you're actually doing it? There's no way to know if you're heading in the "right" direction until you try. And, as morbid as this may sound, there's no way of knowing whether or not you lived a fulfilling, meaningful, and purpose filled life until you are on your death bed. Deny it as much as you want, but there is no way to know how well you lived your life unless you look back. You can't tell the future.
